Alpha Bank Albania announces Chief Executive Officer’ succession plan

The Board of Directors of Alpha Bank Albania has appointed Mr. Georgios Papanastasiou as Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alpha Bank Albania. Mr. Papanastasiou succeeds Mr. Periklis Drougkas. The changes are effective as of December 20, 2017.

Mr. Periklis Drougkas has been the Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Bank
Albania since 2012. He has a professional background evolved through four decades of high performance career to senior-level executive positions in Financial Services sector. Furthermore, Mr. Drougkas is the Chairman of the Albanian Association of Banks, President of the Hellenic Business Association of Albania and member of the Greek Chamber of Economists.

Mr. Georgios Papanastasiou has worked for over three decades in the banking sector in the SEE region, namely Greece, FYROM, Serbia and now Albania. His career started at The Bank of Nova Scotia in Thessaloniki, Canada’s International Bank and a leading financial services provider in North, Central and Latin America and Asia-Pacific. In 1991, he joined ABN Amro Bank NV, the largest bank in the Netherlands and among the biggest in Europe, where he served as Area Commercial Manager for North Greece. Mr. Papanastasiou in September 2000 joined Stopanska Banka AD, Skopje, member of NBG Group where after five years as Corporate Advisor and Credit manager, he was appointed General Manager B’ in July 2005.

In January 2009 he joined Alpha bank Group and in April 2009 he was appointed President of the Executive Board of Alpha Bank Serbia AD until April 2017 when he was seconded to Alpha Bank Albania to be appointed as bank’s CEO.

From 2011 to April ‘17 he was also elected Board member and President of the Board of Directors in Hellenic Business Association in Serbia.
Mr. Papanastasiou holds a BSc degree in Economics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a MBA degree from Bentley College, Massachusetts, USA.
